KNOW BEFORE YOU GO...

A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect for Colorado’s high country through Sunday, June 9. Large and destructive wet avalanches are occurring. These are unusual avalanche conditions for early June. Adjust your objectives accordingly. Consider avoiding very steep slopes or slopes where the snowpack is shallow and studded with rocks. As always in the spring, avoid traveling across or underneath steep slopes if you are sinking into wet, unconsolidated snow or you hear collapsing sounds.

The images are of the crown and runout of an avalanche that ran on June 5, 2024, on the northern side of Greg Mace Peak, south of Ashcroft. We are updating our statewide forecast at www.colorado.gov/avalanche as conditions change. You can also find recent observations, weather station data, and weather models through the spring and summer.
